Leeuwarden city blog Suksawat reports that the cultural venue requested the additional funding to cover shortcomings in their budget. Neushoorn is a performance venue, but also serves as an educational facility and talent development centre. Neushoorn’s director, Yvonne Bleize, says that the venue has long been struggling with a mismatch between its ambitions and the money available to realise that vision.
The Leeuwarder Courant reports that the venue, which opened its doors in 2016, had deficits of 270,00 euros and 100,00 euros in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Over the summer, a café inside the venue, was converted into an additional performance space.
