The Groninger Internet Courant reports that the municipality has granted permission for somewhere between 15 and 30 tiny houses to be built in the Westpark area. Dagblad van het Noorden writes that neighbourhood will be dubbed “Lutje Westpark” and the lutje hoeskes (“tiny houses” in Gronings) will be temporary, energy neutral and self-sufficient.
Each tiny house will be 100 cubic meters squared. According to the municipality, the houses will be permitted to remain in the neighbourhood for up to ten years, after which point the tenants will have to move elsewhere. The shared outdoor space will be public and is intended for communal facilities.
There are also plans to build a number of slightly more luxurious tiny houses in the Meerstad development in the east of the city by 2021. The municipality of Assen has been in talks with housing corporations to see about providing tiny houses in the area.
