RTV Drenthe reports that the majority of the council voted in favour of Emmen becoming the only financier of Wildlands by taking over the financial stakes of the current financiers, namely 18.3 million euros in loans from VolkerWessels Stevin and RaboBank.
The only two parties that voted against the proposal were the Socialist Party and the PVV, but several factions took pains to point out that making the local government financially responsible for the park was the “least bad option”. A number of factions also called for the municipality to be given more influence over the course of the parl.
The vote also approved of refinancing and an additional 11-million-euro credit for the park. The proposal for the new financial model for the park was introduced earlier in March. The financial rescue plan will cost the municipality 1.7 million euros annually.
