A car crashed into a sidewalk next to a café on Meeuwerderweg in Groningen on Saturday evening, whereupon the driver got out of the vehicle, pulled out a knife and threatened a female diner, RTV Noord reports.
The 62-year-old owner of the café spoke with the man outside his establishment in an attempt to calm him, but was injured as the man made an escape. The café owner was taken to hospital. The driver, who was identified as a 32-year-old Groningen resident, was taken into custody later in the evening.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash into the eatery, reported to be popular among FC Groningen fans. There is no information on possible motives for the incident.
