The municipality of Groningen wants to designate more areas in the city as smoke-free zones.

The Groninger Internet Courant reports that the main areas where the municipality would like to ban smoking are schools, hospitals and sports parks. Organisations can submit a proposal to the municipality to implement a smoking ban in their area.
If their proposal is approved, it will then be up to the applicants themselves to enforce the ban. More and more organisations are designating their properties as smoke-free zones. According to the municipality, there are at least 30 different groups that are interested in banning smoking in their vicinity.
