There has been a 32 percent rise in the number of professional singers registered in the Province
More and more professional singers are choosing to base themselves in the Province of Drenthe, reports RTV Drenthe. The tunesters, songstresses, and warblers are flocking to the Netherlands’ most beautiful province, and particularly to the city of Emmen.
The number of professional singers registered at the KVK (Chamber of Commerce) in Drenthe has increased in recent years: from 47 in 2016, to 62 at the beginning of 2021. That is an increase of 32 percent. A full 18 of the Drenthe-based musicians are based in Emmen.
Significantly more vocalists have started to work across all the various provinces, who are registered with the Chamber of Commerce. In Zeeland this number rose the fastest with 130 percent, although in absolute numbers it concerns a small group of singers. Gelderland and Limburg follow with increases of more than 60 percent.
Nationally, the number of singers has increased by almost 50 percent in five years. At the beginning of this year, 4,100 vocalists were registered with the Chamber of Commerce. In January 2016 this was 2,800.
Six out of ten professional vocalists are women. Most of them are between twenty and forty years old and all are self-employed.
