Bringing the theatre to the audience in Eelde
A cultural first is taking place in the village of Eelde in Drenthe, with actors performing on a stage pulled by a tractor. The idea is from a group of Drents actors, that wanted to bring the magic of the stage to people self-isolating. The group is led by Kim Oosterhoff, who highlights that the ‘Vooruin Performance’ is also a way to keep the elderly entertained.
Oosterhoff is studying to become a theatre teacher: “If people can’t go to the theater, we’ll bring the theater to people anyway,” she says to RTV Drenthe.
On Sunday the troupe went to four people sitting in their own front gardens, to perform the show. “You can easily move the cart. You can put your own front yard in front of an older person’s front yard. And after that you can easily continue. It is also so easy to keep your distance.”
As for the reaction from the audience: “You really saw them shine. Really very nice to see.” Therefore it certainly is worth repeating, according to Kim. “It is a concept that I want to do more often. You bring the theater to the people’s home. And that can be done anywhere. Also in a different place.”
