The preliminary forecast by weatherman Piet Paulusma, a fixture for northern television viewers, predicts that the coming months will be characterised by unusually harsh conditions.

In keeping with his seasonal forecasts in recent years, Paulusma says that there will be significant snowfall in December and extremely cold temperatures in February as low as negative 20 degrees Celsius.
According to Paulusma, this winter will generally be characterised by ice storms, lots of wintry precipitation and frost. Dagblad van het Noorden reports that Paulusma’s definitive forecast will be issued in late November.
Elfstedentocht
Although Paulusma’s predictions sound like a recipe for the mythical Elfstedentocht, the Frisian weatherman says that the chances are good that people will get to skate on natural ice, but does not make any projections about the likelihood of the skating race.
