The Groninger Internet Courant reports that the free admission concert is open to everyone and will be held at 5 p.m. at the conservatory in Groningen. The music school, which is a part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and the Dutch Guitar Foundation are organising the concert to honour the memory of Vlaskalic, a talented classical guitarist who was killed in a cycling accident last week.
The programme for the concert is still being finalised, but the Volos Guitar Trio has been confirmed. Formerly known as the Naxos Guitar trio, the three guitarists – Aniello Desiderio (Italy), Zoran Dukic (Croatia) and Costas Cotsiolis (Greece) – were major musical influences and close friends of Vlaskalic, who reportedly called them her “three guitar papas”.
“Sabrina was a dear colleague and an extremely talented musician”, according to the Hanze press release for the memorial concert. “We knew her as an inspiring and committed teacher who was invaluable to her students. She started her teaching career in 2012 and has built up a large guitar class. Students from all over the world have come to Groningen with one goal: study with her. The energy and care that she gave her students has left an indelible impression on them and their grief is immense.”
