The head of the GGD Groningen says that most people will be vaccinated by the end of summer
Despite a slow in the supply of vaccines in the EU, the Mayor of Groningen says that the vaccination rollout in Groningen is on schedule, reports the GIC. The Director of the GGD Groningen, Jos Ritveld, earlier said that most people should be able to access a vaccine by the summer.
“The willingness in Groningen to vaccinate is very great, and that is gratifying!” ,says Mayor Schuiling. In a consultation with the municipal council, as he presented an explanation about the course of the vaccination programme in the city and province of Groningen.
According to the mayor, the vaccination of residents of Groningen by the GGD is on schedule. The GGD depends on its allocation of vaccines by the RIVM.
Work is currently being done in Groningen on vaccinating residents over 85 years old and nursing home employees in nursing homes. Next week it is the turn of the slightly younger eighty-somethings.
Earlier, the director of the GGD Groningen, Jos Rietveld, said that “anyone who wants to” can be vaccinated this summer, despite the difficult delivery of vaccines.
In consultation with the city council, Mayor Schuiling did not mention a date on which he thinks everyone has been vaccinated. But he does say that the “GGD is on schedule”, and that would mean that the vaccination of anyone who wants to do so in Groningen could be (largely) completed this summer.
