A man has died while being detained by the police in the Techum neighbourhood in the southwest of Leeuwarden.
According to the Leeuwarder Courant, the man violently resisted when the police attempted to arrest him, became unwell and died.
The police have contacted the National Department of Criminal Investigation (Rijksrecherche), who will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the man’s exact cause of death.
The police reportedly immediately began CPR and a trauma helicopter and two ambulances were called to the scene, but the man could not be revived.
The attempted arrest occurred around 9:30 on Saturday night at a house on It Heafek when police responded to reports of a fight at that address. The street and the house have been cordoned off as part of the investigation.
