An explosion on a yacht on the Terkaplester Puollen in the Frisian town of Terherne seriously injured a man and woman on board on Thursday night.
According to the Leeuwarder Courant, the man was brought to UMCG in Groningen in critical condition. The woman suffered serious burns and was taken to Martini Hospital in Groningen. The force of the explosion flung the woman overboard, and several bystanders rescued her from the water. The man was rescued from the boat by emergency services.
The explosion likely originated from a gas canister. The explosion caused a fire on board the yacht. Emergency services were called to the site at around 10 p.m. Fire departments from Grou and Joure responded to the call, as well as two helicopters from the Mobile Medical Team. The fire department removed the remaining gas canisters from the boat.
