The Groninger Museum has received a donation of €636,000 from lottery organization VriendenLoterij, Omroep OOG reports. The museum has been a long-term partner of the lottery, which specializes in supporting cultural causes.
The museum director, Andreas Blühm, says he is very pleased with the generous contribution. “It will allow us to make important acquisitions for our collections, organize exhibitions of international importance and appeal to new target groups,” he hopes.
The VriendenLoterij is the cultural lottery of the Netherlands. Besides getting a chance to win prizes, lottery participants support all forms of culture in the country, from the preservation of windmills to concerts, festivals and museum exhibitions.
The lottery has supported the Groninger Museum since 2006. The funding enabled the cultural institution to expand its collection, restore artwork, and organize exhibitions and presentations.
