Have you forgotten something on an NS train? Your favourite scarf, or perhaps your wallet or phone? The Dutch rail company now made it easier for you to be reunited with your lost items.
NS launched its new lost and found website in November, replacing its old system where passengers missing their belongings had to fill out a form. NS staff would then search for the item in question, among a depository of 62,000 items.
The new website lets travellers specify which item they lost and provides them with a list of photos of relevant items. Cards and other documents with someone’s personal details are not shown on the website and are instead passed on to the relevant authorities.
If you find your lost item on the site, you can apply for its return and provide as much detail about the item as possible so that NS can be sure it belongs to you. If approved, you’ll get an email within 24 hours asking whether you’d like to collect the item yourself or have it posted to you for €15. International shipments may be possible but are more expensive.
Urgent lost and found issues can still be brought to NS’ attention with a call to its customer service line on 0307515155, if for example, you need something you lost immediately.
