Longest funnel slide in the world opens in Drenthe

The province of Drenthe has a new attraction for holidaymakers: Saltato, the longest funnel slide in the world.

Translation by Hans de Preter

The new mega slide is located at the Hof van Saksen holiday park, which is south of Assen in the town of Nooitgedacht. At 195 meters, the Saltato is the longest funnel slide in the world, according to RTV Drenthe. A ride on the slide, which goes through a series of funnels and incorporates unique lighting, lasts about 60 seconds.

In the Saltato, thrill seekers race through four funnels that are about five meters wide in two person innertubes. The slide opened to the public last weekend, and the idea for the giant installation first came up five years ago. Construction of the prestige project began in early April.

Roland Rozenbroek, the director of the Hof van Saksen park, says that the slide is an especially welcome edition for slightly older kids. In addition to the Saltato, Hof van Saksen also opened a new 18-hole golf course for all ages last month: Rozenboek says the park has invested around 40 million euros in upgrades to their outdoor activities and accommodations in recent years.
