Regional public transport provider Arriva will deploy longer trains and more buses during the morning and evening commute hours to Groningen in the first few weeks of the new academic year.

Starting on the 26th of August, there will be more buses during the peak commuting hours between Groningen and Heerenveen: RTV Noord reports that Qliner 315 will run four times an hour during rush hour rather than its normal two times.
Bus services outside of the city will also operate a direct service to the Zernike campus: line 665 from Winsum to Zernike will depart at 7:52 a.m., and line 679 will travel from Winschoten to Zernike at 7:24 a.m.
Arriva intends to provide the extended services up until the autumn break in mid-October, at which point the company says the biggest passenger peak begins to die down due to students finding housing in the city and other students choosing to drop out.
