The Oosterpoort and the Stadsschouwburg in the city of Groningen will begin selling lollipops for concert attendees to give to excessively talkative guests.

According to the Groninger Internet Courant, the lollipops are meant to provide a less confrontational way to convey to someone chattering away during a performance that they need to quiet down. The Oosterpoort and the Stadsschouwburg will start selling them at their bars in the near future.
The idea for the “lul-niet-lolly” came from a venue in The Hague called Paard. The concert space introduced the silencing sweets last year, and the idea was very well received. Other venues across the Netherlands have also adopted the lollypop system to combat distracting conversations during performances.
