On Wednesday morning, a large fire broke out at a recycling company in Nieuw-Dordrecht, near Emmen. The fire brigade expects it will take several days to fully extinguish the fire.
The fire is a burning pile of rubbish, which is proving difficult to put out. “It could take up to one or two days before this fire it extinguished because it will continue smoldering inside the heap”, a spokesperson of the fire brigade told RTV Drenthe.
Large smoke plumes are visible in a large area of Southeast Drenthe. Residents have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed. The fire brigade is performing tests to see whether or not the smoke contains harmful substances.
