Not everyone is starstruck by royalty…
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands paid a completely unexpected visit to the province of Drenthe. During the ‘working visit’ he was informed about the economic consequences of the Coronavirus outbreak, specifically in the recreation and leisure sector. The visit was so unexpected that a window cleaner, complete with ladder, cycled past the King without noticing him. A video of the window-cleaner has now gone viral.
De Koning started his visit in the “Hunebedcentrum” where he took part in a round table discussion with representatives from the recreation and leisure sector in Drenthe, deputy Henk Brink and mayor Jan Seton.
The effects of the pandemic on hotels, campsites and holiday parks and on day attractions such as Wildlands Adventure Zoo and events such as the TT in Assen were discussed.
By easing measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, the sectors are once again open with limited access. The participants said what they are doing to receive visitors responsibly and safely. This has major consequences for their business operations and personnel. Finally, the King received a short tour of the Hunebedcentrum and the surrounding garden.
