The entire Julianaplein will be closed to traffic from 20:00 on Friday May 8th to Monday 10th at 6:00, reports the Groninger Internet Courant.
The route between Drachten and Assen, which is open at the moment, will also close on Friday.
On the weekend, work will be done to install traffic lights and the last few touches for the re-opening of the temporary Julianaplein in all directions on Monday.
People traveling to Friesland from East Groningen can use the Ring Noord, while those trying to reach Assen from East Groningen can go through the N33. Drivers coming from West Groningen and wanting to go to Assen, or vice versa, should instead take the N372/N386.
The temporary shutdown of Julianaplein has been well-publicized in free local papers, to try and ensure citizens don’t experience too much disruption.
