The International Welcome Center North (IWCN) is organising a free Dutch history and culture lecture.
Have you always wondered what made the Netherlands into the country it is today? Step into the fascinating world of Dutch history and culture in this monthly event hosted by history students Jurjen and Ilse that kick starts on December 12th.
The two volunteers will focus on the Netherlands’ rich and complex past, touching on subjects like the Royal Family, the different provinces, the Second World War, Vincent van Gogh, the Hanseatic League, and more.
The Dutch canon is a chronological list of the most important historical events and people in the Netherlands, compiled by the Ministry of Education. The most recent one will be used in this lecture. In addition to this canon, I will also discuss why some events are included and excluded by the Ministry in the canon.
The event will be on Thursday, December 12th, at 17:15. It is free to attend, but requires prior registration, which can be done here. The location will then be sent via email.
