Following the inaugural edition in 2016, “Into Nature”, a visual arts route through the Drenthe landscape featuring works by 20 popular international artists, will return to province this summer.
This year’s route will be held in the southwestern part of the province near where the provinces of Drenthe, Friesland and Overijssel meet. The artistic event will include pieces by Matthew Day Jackson (American), David Claerbout (Belgian), Adrián Villar Rojas (Argentinan), Olafur Eliasson (Icelandic) and Dutch artists Sarah van Sonsbeeck and Lotte Geeven, among others.
Rojas is currently creating dozens of bird nests that will be placed along the route, and the iconic stone formations in the provinces known as hunebedden will also be incorporated into the route.
The theme of the second edition will be “Out of Darkness”, and visitors can bike or hike the scenic route starting either in Frederiksoord or in the Holtingerveld, the latter of which will feature an art installation by the British art duo Heather & Ivan Morison where visitors can stay overnight.
“Into Nature: Out of Darkness” will be on display between 1 July and 16 September, Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
