The International Welcome Center North (IWCN) was present at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) annual European Career Fair, which gives European companies a chance to recruit top talent from different universities in Massachusetts and other parts of America. Attendees included students, working professionals, and alumni from esteemed universities in the US.
The IWCN was represented by Operations Manager Karen Prowse who also represented the local job platform Make it in the North. Dorte Mierau, Policy Advisor International Affairs at the Municipality of Groningen and Ellen Bosma, Advisor International Affairs at the Municipality of Groningen, were also present
The events included a ‘Netherlands Welcome Night’ for networking, the European Career Fair, and the launch of the MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives program called MIT-Netherlands. With this program, Dutch companies can take on more internationals for internships in The Netherlands without higher costs.
About the organisations
The IWCN offers a range of services for internationals and companies who hire them. This can range from answering questions and organising integration events to personal advice or business guidance. They aim to make the transition easier for internationals, and for companies to lower the threshold for hiring international talent.
Make it in the North represents Dutch companies interested in hiring this international talent. The job listings are exclusively for people who don’t speak fluent Dutch (yet). They aim to solve the shortage problem in the Northern job market, and internationals not being able to find work without speaking Dutch.
