Tourist visits are up by 10 percent
The Province of Groningen is becoming more popular with tourists from within the Netherlands, so show figures from Statistics Netherlands. The number of Dutch holidaymakers in the Province increased by almost 10 percent compared to a year earlier.
In no other province the increase has been so great. Due to the Coronavirus, there was a significant decrease in the number of foreign tourists in Groningen, though, by almost 55 percent. Nevertheless, compared to other provinces, this decrease was relatively mild: in Noord-Holland (the region surrounding Amsterdam) there was a decrease of more than 65 percent, reports the GIC.
The number of overnight stays in overnight accommodation declined in all provinces, but the least in Groningen and Friesland (10 and 8 percent). The decline was greatest in North and South Holland, at 53 percent and 35 percent respectively.
