It’s pop music, just not as you know it

Translated by Thomas Ansell

In the city of Leeuwarden, the coming of spring is also the start of a new focus on Frisian pop culture, reports the Omrop Fryslân.

As part of the celebration, a series of concerts will be put on by Frisian pop musicians, including Feral Tides, Zippora Tieman, Way Down the Rainbow; and Dina. During the series of events, the focus will be on how diversity influences Frisian pop music and culture, and how women are now at the cutting edge of success and innovation.

Marije Heida, of 3VOOR12/Friesland, will give a talk on how and which Frisian bands and artists are reaching International fame, whilst two Frisian music label bosses (Tamme Oosterhof of Bigbadwolfrecords and Jouke Rispens of Morning Wood Records) will give a talk on the general scene in the province.

The talks are likely to be in a mixture of Dutch and Frisian, but everyone can enjoy some of Frieslands new pop music sensations. Best of all, the IepenUP Live is completely free to attend.

The concerts and events will take place at the Neushoorn pop music venue in Leeuwarden, each Wednesday from 19:30. For a taste of Frisian music, they will also be streamed on the IepenUP Facebook page.
