Laurens Meijer own fifty bars across the country
If the cabinet does not come across with more money soon, catering icon Laurens Meijer will open his bars, including the Drie Gezusters in Groningen, on 1 June reports the Dagblad van het Noorden. The so-called ‘Horeca Tycoon’ from Brabant has threatened to do so even if the government hasn’t lifted Coronavirus measures. Meijer also calls on other catering entrepreneurs to simply open on 1 June, despite the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
Meijer has fifty pubs and 2000 employees across the country. The hospitality entrepreneur recently started the Catering Care campaign, in which the cabinet called for more money to be made available for the catering industry.
According to Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, if pubs, cafes and restaurants cannot open quickly two thirds will be bankrupt before 1 June.
