Over a million of low-income Dutch households will receive cost of living payments over the next year as the government decided to continue its relief program to offset the effect of high energy prices. The payments will be made most probably in two instalments by the local authority areas and total 1,300 euros. The municipality of Groningen has announced that it will continue helping all low-income families and individuals through this challenging time.

Here’s everything you need to know – including when you will get the cost of living payments, who is eligible and how much you will receive. We also explain other support you can get like the energy rebate and winter fuel payment.
What date will I get the next cost of living payment?
The Groningen authorities have confirmed that people will receive the next cost of living payment at the end of April 2023. This initial payment will be €500, and it will be sent directly into the bank accounts of every recipient of energy assistance in 2022.
You will be asked to apply for a second cost of living payment sometime in the summer, and, most likely, it will be made in autumn. It is not clear at this stage if people should expect a third payout.
Who gets the cost of living payment?
The allowance is for people whose income does not exceed 120% of the social minimum. For families this means the gross income cannot be higher than €1,777 a month. For a single person the limit is €1,244 a month. The municipality of Groningen compensated 22,465 households for high energy prices in 2022.
