The Heerenveen municipal council has passed a motion calling for the mayor and alderpeople to do everything within their power to ensure that the Lelyline becomes a reality.

Omrop Fryslan reports that the council passed a motion for more local government support for the eventual creation of a rail line between Lelystad and Groningen. The Lelyline would connect Lelystad, Emmeloord, Heerenveen, Drachten and Groningen.
The VVD, CDA, PvdA, ChristenUnie, GroenLinks and Gemeentebelangen factions in Heerenveen submitted the motion. The VVD faction says that the new rail line would make Heerenveen a key player and would vastly improve the city’s accessibility, which would further strengthen the city’s position as a job creation centre in Friesland. The motion was accepted by the entire council.
