The police in Groningen chased away 200 people that had gathered in Grote Markt
Translated by Adriana Dancu
Following last week’s numerous riots across the Netherlands, the police officers in Groningen prepared last night to prevent any possible disturbances caused by a group of 200 people gathered in Grote Markt. Fortunately, however, the police did not have to intervene, as there was no unrest among the people. The group of people left the Grote Markt, right in time for the curfew, and the market was empty by 21:00
Allegedly, some of those present came out of curiosity, after they saw posts on social media calling for people to gather in the Grote Markt to riot.
Among the audience, there were about fifty supporters of FC Groningen, who claimed that they wanted to help the police prevent the riot.
Sikkom, the city blog for Groningen, even has screenshots of the Telegram messages used to incite the gathering/non-riots.
