Sebastiaan Pasma, a developer from Groningen has created an app to answer the daily workplace question of who’s getting the coffee: Kantoor Roulette.
Translation by Thomas Ansell
Pasma’s app is a new, fair way to decide who in the office is going to have to make a coffee run. With Kantoor Roulette, a co-worker can request a coffee break, which sends out a notification and invitation to everyone else who uses the app, who can then answer yes or no.
A minute or two later, the app automatically and randomly nominates one person to be the coffee provider, thus avoiding endless debate about who made the coffee run last time and providing more social interaction among coffee-drinking colleagues. Pasma came up with the idea because he works in an office with other entrepreneurs and creatives, and he found himself wondering if there might be a better way to connect with his officemates.
The app is free and was originally created in 2015, but the Groninger Internet Courant reports that use of the app has really taken off over the past month. Kantoor Roulette currently has around 400 “roulettes” a week across around 40 companies.
