A company in Groningen will soon start producing COVID-19 test packages: with more than one million to be made per week. The Coronavirus tests are intended for the world market and are made in the Groningen branch of PerkinElmer, reports the GIC.
PerkinElmer’s facility in Groningen is fully equipped for the production of the Coronavirus test kits. The company has hired an additional 50 people to produce a million test kits in three weeks.
PerkinElmer has offices in Oss, Drachten and Groningen. It chose to produce the tests in Groningen because the facility was already producing tests on a limited scale. The facility has recently gained experience by creating a system to separate DNA from the virus, taken from nasal and cheek mucus.
The company, based in Walton in Massachusetts (USA), is a giant medical technology and pharmaceuticals conglomerate, and is listed on the S&P 500 index. In 2017 the company had a yearly revenue of 2.3 Billion US dollars.
