The MartiniPlaza will host the test centre
Groningen will definitely get an XL Coronavirus ‘test street’ at the MartiniPlaza in the south of the city. Construction has already started, with the location also likely to offer quick-tests. The location may open in late November or early December.
It was previously known that MartiniPlaza was in the race as the location for the XL test location. The national government confirmed on Friday that the test location will actually be located in the Groningen event complex.
There will be about eight major test streets across the country. Between 3,000 and 12,000 tests can be taken there every day. This means that around 100,000 additional tests can be conducted throughout the country, many of which are rapid tests. This doubles the current capacity.
For example, there will be XL test streets at Schiphol, the Utrecht Jaarbeurs and in the Amsterdam Rai. Rapid tests and normal PCR tests are performed at the locations. Some provinces, such as Drenthe and Friesland, will not have an XL test street, but it is being investigated whether they can also offer rapid tests there.
The test sites are first manned by defense personnel. Appointments later can be made via the telephone number (0800-1202) or online via www.coronatest.nl.
