Eleven outlets on the Vismarkt want to combine their outside spaces
The businesses have submitted a plan to the city council, asking to place 25 tables on the Vismarkt each, on non-market days. As reported by the GIC.
This could create one of the largest pub terraces in The Netherlands; the businesses say that they want to give the Vismarkt its social function again, rather than simply capitalising on having tables on one of the best-known outdoor spaces in the city. “Groningen will then look a bit like Maastricht,” says one of the entrepreneurs.
The terrace will only be placed in good weather. If there is a market, the construction of the terrace will start immediately after the stalls have been cleared. Anyone that has walked over the Vismarkt just after the market will know not to take any tables next to where the fishmongers stalls usually stand.
Cappuvino, Huis de Beurs, Huize Maas; Pronk and Cantina Mexicana are allegedly involved in the terrace plan. The municipality is considering the request.
A decision will be made in the coming days. The Gemeente has already allowed the erecting of a terrace on the Grote Markt. Events company 4PM also previously submitted a plan to the municipality for a large popup terrace in the Stadspark.
