Fino Kaposvar, from the city of Kaposvar, will face Lycurgus home and away
Translated by Thomas Ansell
Lycurgus confirmed their place in the round of 16 at the end of June, but have had to wait until Fino beat UVC Weberzeile Ried (from Germany) 3-1 home and away to find out who they would be facing in the knockout stages. The away match will take place in Hungary on Wednesday 11 December, before Lycurgus return to the MartiniPlaza to play at home on 19 December.
Fino Kaposvar were founded in 1953, and finished third in the Hungarian league last season. Their European cometition was cut short last season when they lost a first-round match to the Austrian team UVC Graz in a tense ‘Golden set’ finale.
Hungary, despite having a number of teams in the European Challenge Cup, sit sixtieth in the world rankings, whilst the Netherlands is fifteenth. Lycurgus won its first Eredivisie title in 2016, having come second in 2011 and 2014. This season, they sit second in the league, behind Draisma Dynamo from Apeldoorn. Whilst Lycurgus normally play their home games at the Sport Park Kardinge, but for large games such as their match against Fino Kaposvar they play at the Martiniplaza, which has a capacity of around 4,500 people.
Tickets for the match in Groningen are available on the SAMEN.Lycurgus website
