Bert Niesters, professor in medical microbiology at the University of Groningen, has called for the scrapping of the coronavirus pass system, the Groninger Internet Courant reports.
“Corona passes are not needed anymore. They have limited usefulness,” the clinical virologist told the BNR radio station. “Instead, we need to use our common sense and stay home when we feel poorly.”
Vaccinated people can still carry the virus, Niester says. So it does not make a lot of sense to keep mandating the coronavirus pass system. The spike in Omicron infections is a proof of that, the RUG professor believes.
A recent Delft University study has found that the coronavirus pass is largely ineffective in preventing the spread of COVID infections.
