The outdoor spaces at bars and cafes across Groningen can remain open later than usual on Thursday due to high evening temperatures.

The Groninger Internet Courant reports that terraces within the canal ring can stay open until 3 a.m. and those outside the ring can stay open until 2 a.m.
The terraces can stay open longer due to something called the Tropical Weather Scenario: when the temperature in the afternoon exceeds 27 degrees, municipalities can choose to keep the outdoor dining and drinking spaces open later than usual.
Warm weather means that cafes can also set up outdoors earlier than normal hours, starting from 11 a.m. Establishments without a so-called terrace permit can put out tables and chairs on the pavement, as long as it does not hinder pedestrians.
