OOGTV reports that the robbery occurred in the north of the city at around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. The supermarket staff immediately notified the police, who responded within minutes.
In order to avoid capture, the suspect jumped into the canal and attempted to swim to the other side. The man was greeted by two officers who were awaiting him on the opposite shore.
Fire fighters were also on site in case the man got into trouble in the water. It is not clear what was stolen from the grocery store.
