There have been another 52 confirmed cases compared to last week
The number of new Coronavirus infections in the province of Groningen continue to rise. In a week, 52 infections were added, compared to 60 a week earlier. In total, 529 people from Groningen have now been tested positive for the virus.
The GGD Groningen has seen a slight decrease in the number of confirmed infections. According to the GGD it is too early to conclude the Coronavirus is spreading faster than can be handled easily. ‘After all, it only concerns one week,’ explains a spokesperson. ‘You can only say whether corona is really on the way back if such a trend takes place over a longer period of time.’
According to the GGD, which published a weekly update on Wednesday, more than half of the newly infected Groningen residents are between 18 and 30 years old. Only 1 infection has been reported under the age of 18. The update also shows that the source of more than half of the infections is unknown, GIC.nl reports.
Seven more infections were added between Monday and Tuesday. The number of new infections is approximately seven to eight per day. Across the country, the number of infections had also decreased slightly last week compared to a week earlier. However, more hospital admissions and deceased patients were reported. In Groningen, those figures are still unchanged.
Between 12 and 18 August, 3,983 people from Groningen were tested for the corona virus at a test location, of which 39 (1.0 percent) turned out to be positive. In terms of the number of tests, this is a significant increase compared to a week earlier, when the number of tests was 3,054. In total, the GGD in Groningen has carried out almost 25,000 corona tests at the test location since 1 June
