The city of Groningen has a new millionaire: on Saturday evening, a resident of the city won 5.1 million euros in the lottery.
The Groninger Internet Courant writes that the winner’s identity is not yet known, and Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the Lotto Jackpot recipient picked out the winning six-number ticket online. The winner will have to pay betting tax on his or her winnings.
The last time that a citizen of the province won a significant amount of cash in the lottery was in the summer of 2016. Metronieuws says that the winner received a much bigger cash prize last year: 26.1 million euros in the so-called Oudejaars drawing.
