Population growth in the city is decreasing, however
Groningen is likely to have more than 270,000 inhabitants by the year 2040, reports the GIC. The finding comes from a report from the Research Information and Statistics Groningen (OISG) service.
This report looks into historical and future demographic developments in the municipality of Groningen. In the past ten years, the population has increased by approximately 19,250.
Over the next twenty years, approximately 37,800 will be added and the counter is expected to reach more than 270,500 on January 1, 2040. The growth of the past years continues is continuing, but not as quickly as previously.
The number of people over 65 is likely to increase,and the city is also likely to remain popular with students.
