The center of Groningen has been taken over by the construction of the Meikermis fair, reports the Groninger Internet Courant. The carnival will open tomorrow, Thursday 12 May, and will last for eleven days.
According to its official website, the Groningen Meikermis is the “largest, cheapest and tallest fair in the North”, with dozens of attractions for both children and adults.
The fair will be in three different locations: the most spectacular rides will be on the Grote Markt and the Vismarkt, while on the Ossenmarkt there will be more classic, nostalgic attractions.
Attractions prices are fixed to a maximum of 2,5 euros for children’s rides and 3 euros for adult rides.
The fair will also hold special events, like face painting sessions for children and a “low-stimulus” afternoon on Sunday 15, featuring less loud music and less flashy lights.
This is the first time the Meikermis is back in Groningen since 2019; the previous two editions ended up being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
