Oktoberfest Grunn is going to host its first Oktoberfest event on Grote Markt this weekend.

Translated by Mehret Haile-Mariam

The so-called “Oktoberfest” is an annually held German folk festival in Munich (Bavaria). The traditional festival takes place in late September and early October and is the biggest “Volksfest” globally as it hosts up to 6 million people yearly. The unique celebration of Bavarian culture attracts visitors from all over the world.

As this year’s Oktoberfest was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Groninger Oktoberfest poses a great opportunity for anyone who either planned to travel to Munich or would like to experience this unique tradition. Either way, be ready for an overdose of leather trousers, dirndls, beer mugs, and gingerbread hearts.

Groningen meets Oktoberfest

The organization Oktoberfest Grunn will be hosting its first Oktoberfest on October 15 and 16. According to the organizers, a luxurious, heated, and decorated hangar will be set up on the Grote Markt, allowing visitors to experience Germanys most famous folk festival right in the heart of Groningen. The programme promises, amongst others, German life musicians, traditional food, and a great atmosphere.
