The eco-friendly menstural cup has a revolutionary design
By Thomas Ansell
A Groningen based start-up is looking to revolutionise the world of sanitary products with the launch of the Phia Cup, which will be available from tomorrow.
The idea behind the Phia Cup is to make using a menstrual cup more approachable and easy- says founder Sophia Peterson: “Although I loved the idea behind menstrual cups, I struggled to find the perfect cup. Inserting and removing a cup quickly and effortlessly was one of my biggest priorities, so I decided to create Phia Cup. I was used to using tampons in the past, so I wanted to create a cup that mimicked that application, making it easier for other women to make the switch as well.”
Allegedly, switching to a Phia Cup could save the use of up to 14,000 tampons over the course of the lifetime of the cup (about 10 years)
Per the company itself, the Phia Cup’s innovation is its triangular shape, which means it can be easily folded for insertion and also makes it more comfortable to use. The handle on the bottom of the Phia Cup, meanwhile, mimics the ‘push and pull’ of a tampon, making it easier to transition from using a tampon to a Phia Cup.
