The bicycle parking at the Europapark station in Groningen has been updated with 700 extra parking spots, the Province of Groningen announced on March 25th.
The capacity of the busy travel hub has thus gone up from 600 bike spots to 1300 by adding upper racks to the existing ones, a welcome and necessary expansion due to Europapark’s growth and more prominent role in the regional public transport network.
The renovation will allow Europapark to act more regularly as a terminal station for trains in the future.
The project was a joint endeavor by the Municipality of Groningen, the Province of Groningen and ProRail.
The Municipality of Groningen financed the expansion at Europapark, and the Province also issued a subsidy of 120,000 euro for the project, under its Bicycle Implementation Program. Under the program’s umbrella, the stations of Groningen, Groningen North, Bedum, Grijpskerk, Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Martenshoek, Veendam and Winschoten have also received subsidies for additional bicycle sheds. These parking facilities will be expanded in the course of 2022 and 2023.
