The chocolate café had a soft opening over the past week, but Thursday was the official opening of Quetzal on the Oude Boteringestraat.
From bonbons to brownies, from milkshakes to cakes and from croissants to 20 different kinds of chocolate milk, the Groningen location is the latest addition to the chain’s franchises.
Quetzal also has chocolate “bars” in Belgium and Germany, and all of the chocolate sold by the chain is made with organic and fair trade cacao from Guatemala. Sikkom reports that the name “Quetzal” refers to a tropical species of bird native to South America that eats and digests cacao pods.
