Starting today, Dutch consumers can create a profile on the iDEAL payment system to make online purchases at web shops faster and more securely, RTL Nieuws reports. By creating a personal profile, your data is stored in the iDEAL system and no longer needs to be entered at each webshop. iDEAL says that this personal data will only be shared with the user’s consent.
Here’s when you can use the new feature
According to Amos Kater, director of iDEAL, this is a new step towards making payments faster and more convenient. “The time when you had to fill in your address details with every purchase is over,” he says.
As of today, ING customers can create a profile on iDEAL, while ABN AMRO customers can do so at a “later date”. Customers of other banks have access to the new feature from today.
No account? No problem! You can still shop like a boss
According to the organization, 1.3 billion transactions are processed annually via iDEAL, accounting for a total of 73 percent of all Dutch online purchases. iDEAL has been around since 2005 and the system was in the hands of the three major Dutch banks, ING, Rabobank and ABN AMRO, for many years.
If you prefer not to create an iDEAL account, don’t worry, it is still possible to pay via the traditional method, without an account.
