Villages will have to become gas-free, and houses must use more solar panels
Translated by Thomas Ansell
As reported in the Omrop Fryslân, two plans were presented by the municipality, setting out the plans. The measures announced by the municipality are not just designed to get more residents and business using renewable energy, but also to get more people saving energy in their every day lives and choices.
The Gemeente Opsterland is leading by example in this respect, and will itself follow the new guidelines set out. Wethouder Rob Jonkman (ChristenUnie) has made it known that all municipal buildings will generate as much energy as they use in the future.
In order to wean various villages in the municipality off the use of gas, a decent alternative has to be found. The incoming plans make it clear that the Gemeente would like to do this in collaboration with the villages themselves: mostly through solar power. As many panels that can reasonably be fitted will be, but the new initiatives do not show plans for significant solar parks.
Naturally, it is planned that all developments will be taken to local residents in consultations, to get their view.
