The ChristenUnie faction in Tytsjerksteradiel municipality has suspended a councilor for his alleged involvement in a child sex crime. The man is suspected of grooming an underage girl before arranging to meet her for sex, Omrop Fryslân reports.
Edwin van E., 52, was a temporary councilor and was initially on the list of candidates for the upcoming elections.
On January 6, Van E. informed the party by e-mail that due to personal circumstances he was resigning from his position with immediate effect and withdrawing his name from the list of candidates for the future elections. The party has reportedly had no further contact with him since then.
The public prosecution service confirmed that a Friesland man had been arrested in the vicinity of Rotterdam on 21 December. He is suspected of “seducing a minor to commit fornication”.
