As reported by the GGD Fryslân, a fourth Coronavirus test location will open on October 28 in Kollum, in the North-East of Friesland, close to Buitenpost and the border with Groningen. The test location will take over part of the former Lauwerscollege building, on the Johannes Bogermantstraat.
At the moment, the GGD Fryslân has test locations in Leeuwarden, Drachten, and IJst- which can test about 1,700 people per day. The fourth location will initially be able to handle 360 tests per day, with capacity to be brought to 480 tests per day shortly after. Waiting times should fall in the Province as a result.
Director of the GGD Fryslân, Margreet de Graaf, says: “requests for tests continue to rise. Therefore the GGD Fryslân wanted to bring about a better spread of locations for residents, to reduce travel times and bring up accessibility.”
Separately, and as reported by the Omrop Fryslân, there are now 17 Coronavirus patients in Intensive Care in the Province, and a total of 45 in hospital generally. This is a sharp rise in hospitalisations, and two more people have unfortunately died. A campaign to encourage social distancing for students in Friesland begins on Wednesday, called ‘daar doen we het voor’ (‘that’s what we’re doing it for’).
