The Province of Friesland has announced that it will be supporting its cultural sector with 250,000 euros of development fund, for the post-Coronavirus world. The announcement was made by Deputy Sietske Poepjes in a press release, and also reported by the Omrop Fryslân.
However Deputy Poepjes has also called on the Dutch government (Rijksoverheid) to assist in preserving cultural gems across the country. Music venues, museums, galleries; and cinemas have “a vital function in maintaining the quality of life”, she said. The Province of Friesland has also asked that the Dutch government focus not only on nationally-known museums or venues in the ‘Randstad’ region, but also that they pay attention to smaller outlet across the Netherlands.
In the release, the Deputy also requests that the government not only look to venues themselves, but people that work behind the scenes, such as cameramen, technicians, and other supporting roles.
